Trees line
the backside of this sandy beach providing the largest
shaded area of any beach on Mykonos. The winds abound
on Kalafatis Beach, setting the perfect stage for
a windsurfer's paradise.
Whether you are a novice,
wanting to try windsurfing for the first time or an
experienced windsurfer arriving with your
own
equipment, this is a beach for all abilities. You
can find a windsurfing school here that rents out
all the gear needed to fly on the water. This beach
is chosen by the windsurfers for organized competitions.
This is also one of the few places on Mykonos where
you can rent a bicycle.
Kalafatis Beach has a few hotels,
rooms to rent and apartments
across the road or on the hill side to the left. There
is a beach taverna that provides beach service and
a restaurant at the far left end of the beach. In
the middle of the beach, tucked into the trees is
a beach bar that also provides beach service. Across
the road from the right end of the beach is a cafeteria
- restaurant frequented by the windsurfing crowd.
Nearby, on the main road, is a mini market, a large
taverna and a pizza restaurant.
Sun beds and umbrellas are available
for rent, though there is plenty of space on the right
to lay your towel. On the sand there is a beach volley
court, a lifeguard on duty and a water sports area.
Kalafatis Beach is also the location for a dive center
that has excursion to two small eastern islands. Kalafatis
Beach is the next to the last of the southern beaches
before rounding the tip of Mykonos Island toward the
remote, not easily accessible eastern beaches. You
can reach this beach by public
transportation, the bus originating at the intersection
near the old port behind the museum or rental
car - motorbike.
